Most humanoid purchases go wrong before a specification is read, because the buyer has not yet written down what the robot is for.
A humanoid robot is bought the way a machine tool is bought and marketed the way a consumer product is marketed. That mismatch is where most disappointment starts. Price lists describe a base configuration, demonstration videos describe a supervised best case, and neither describes the machine that will arrive on a pallet with a specific edition, firmware version and support relationship.
The three topics here come first because they constrain everything after them. What you can spend sets the platform family. How mature the manufacturer is sets the risk you carry. What the project actually needs decides whether a humanoid is the right shape of machine at all - a question worth asking seriously before comparing joint counts.
How to use these comparisons
The market mixes several kinds of product. The Unitree G1 is a compact platform whose base and EDU editions differ in ways that matter. H1 and H2 are full-size machines with different configurations and handling demands. 1X NEO is presented as an Early Access home robot with ownership and subscription paths and a managed assistance model.
